I was watching an interview on some self help show about how to find inner peace and suddenly it occurred to me…”Why am I sitting here listening and intellectualizing what I already know?”
Do you often find yourself trying to think your way back to a “better” way of being? Do you read books or listen to shows as a means of “figuring out” why you don’t feel connected or satisfied? Step away from the TV and put down those books. They are fine for providing tips and insights, but what’s really required is the willingness to get out and feel your way back to inner peace.
You know what it feels like to be humbled by a beautiful sunrise. You know what it feels like to be among the people you love. This is our soul speaking. This is what connects each and every one of us. That knowing, that feeling is readily available if we just get out of our heads. We may experience moments differently, but you know when you are having a “soul experience”. You feel your heart. You feel connected and part of the world. These are the moments of inner peace we find even in the middle of chaotic times.
Today’s self help industry has some wonderful teachers and philosophies. But, we have to remember that philosophies and ideas don’t feel. They can’t articulate what it’s like to feel connected and be a part of something larger. These are places that the mind just cannot go.
So, get out. Go for a hike in nature. Watch a beautiful sunrise. Volunteer at a soup kitchen. Pet a wiggling puppy. Finding inner peace is easier than you think when you just stop thinking about it.
