I absolutely love this quote. How many times has following through on your decisions been influenced by the need to have that decision validated? For me, it’s been at least a million! I look for burning bushes, flashing signs anything to assure me that I’m not going to make a mistake and fall flat on my face.
What will people think? Will I survive financially? Will I be abandoned to Siberia? Will my friends and family still love me? These are all questions that run through my mind when encountered with decisions that I know are going to initiate change in my life.
Let’s face it, for most of us, change is scary. But, that’s life. It doesn’t come with a “Satisfaction Guaranteed” label that we have all become accustomed to expecting when we go out and make a purchase. Even one as simple as toilet paper. Not soft enough? “Please return with proof of purchase…” We all KNOW life doesn’t work that way. So, why do we still expect it to? Why do we still have that insatiable need for guarantees?
Life is like weaving a tapestry and decisions are part of the weaving process. The weaver silently interlaces threads over and over and over creating something of beauty out of raw material. We can’t see the bigger picture, that beautiful tapestry, until it’s finished. The threads, your decisions, used in weaving that tapestry often have imperfections, little slubs and color variations, that give the finished project additional character and beauty.
Don’t deny yourself the additional character and beauty that may come from making an imperfect decision. Make decisions based on your inner knowing and not the need for outer validation. Over time, your decisions lead you to your destiny, that tapestry which is a beautiful sight to behold.
